China: Industrial Production Operation in August 2011

In August, the total value added of the industrial enterprises above designated size was up 13.5 percent year-on-year, or 0.5 percentage points lower than that in July. From January to August, the total value added of the industrial enterprises above designated size surged 14.2 percent, declined 0.1 percentage points over in the first seven months. In terms of month-on-month increase, the growth rate of the total value added of the industrial enterprises above designated size was 1.0 percent in August.

Analysis on different types of enterprises showed that in August, the year-on-year growth of the state-owned and state holding enterprises went up by 9.4 percent; collective enterprises, 8.7 percent; share-holding enterprises, 15.5 percent; and 10.0 percent growth for enterprises funded by foreign investors or investors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan province.

The year-on-year growth of heavy industry in August was 13.5 percent, and 13.4 percent for the light industry.

Grouped by different sectors, in August, all the 39 industrial divisions kept year-on-year growth. Of this total, the growth of textile industry was 7.6 percent; the manufacture of raw chemical materials and chemical products, up by 13.9 percent; the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products, up by 17.6 percent; the ferrous metal smelting and pressing, up by 10.2 percent; the manufacture of general machinery, 15.7 percent; the manufacture of transport equipment, 12.4 percent; the manufacture of electric machinery and equipment, 13.4 percent; the manufacture of communication equipment, computers and other electronic equipment, 16.9 percent; and the production and supply of electricity, gas and water, up 7.7 percent.

In terms of different products, of the total 468 products, the output of 378 products in the August showed a year-on-year growth. Of this total, the output of electricity was 426.0 billion kilowatt-hours, daily output stood at 13.7 billion kilowatt-hours, up by 10.0 percent; that of pig iron was 77.00 million tons, daily output reached 2.48 million tons, up by 12.9 percent; that of cement was 182.43 million tons, daily output hit 5.88 million tons, up by 12.8 percent; that of crude oil was 36.78 million tons, daily output reached 1.19 million tons, up by 4.5 percent; that of ten kinds of nonferrous metals was 2.99 million tons, daily output grew to 100 thousand tons, up by 15.6 percent; that of ethylene was 1.18 million tons, daily output reached 38 thousand tons, up by 1.5 percent; that of motor vehicles was 1450 thousand, daily output topped 47 thousand, up by 9.5 percent; that of cars was 824 thousand, daily output totaled 27 thousand, up by 15.9 percent.

The sales ratio of industrial products in August was 98.2 percent, or 0.2 percentage point lower than that in the same period of last year. The total export delivery value of industrial enterprises was 888.7 billion yuan, up by 17.2 percent year-on-year.
