China: Entrepreneur Confidence Index Went up in the Second Quarter

The results of nationwide survey showed that entrepreneur confidence index (ECI) gained 132.4 in the second quarter of 2011, dropped 5.0 points over the previous quarter.

I. Most of industries had a fall of ECIs. In the second quarter, the ECIs of wholesale and retail trade, construction, industry, transport, storage and postal services, and real estate stood at 144.2, 139.0, 128.9, 128.5 and 107.5, declined 3.8, 6.6, 6.5, 2.7 and 4.8 points respectively over the previous quarter. The ECIs of information transmission, computer services and software industry, social services, hotel and catering services reached 163.5, 139.5 and 135.3, up by 7.9, 2.7 and 4.0 points respectively, quarter-on-quarter.

II. Most types of enterprises registered had a decline in entrepreneurs’ confidence. In the second quarter, the ECIs of share-holding enterprises, foreign funded enterprises, enterprises invested by Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, state-owned enterprises, limited liability corporations, and private enterprises stood at 136.7, 135.6, 134.4, 132.6, 128.9 and 125.0, dipped 7.3, 5.0, 4.4, 3.2, 5.0 and 5.3 points, quarter-on-quarter. The ECIs of collective enterprises and cooperative enterprises was 121.2 and 119.8 respectively, remained or promoted over the previous quarter.

III. The ECIs of large-, medium- and small-sized enterprises went down. In the second quarter, the ECIs of large-, medium- and small-sized enterprises reached 142.0, 133.3 and 119.8, dropped 8.5, 4.4 and 2.9 points respectively.

IV. The ECIs of eastern, central and western regions declined. The ECIs of eastern, central and western regions was 132.4, 132.1 and 132.8, declined 3.4, 8.5 and 4.6, quarter-on-quarter.
