China: Entrepreneur Confidence Index Went up in the First Quarter of 2011

According to the results of nationwide survey showed that entrepreneur confidence index (ECI) gained 137.4 in the first quarter of 2011, remained the same level with the previous quarter.

In the first quarter, the ECIs of wholesale, retail trade and social services reached 148.0 and 136.8, 2.7 and 4.7 points higher than previous period. The ECIs of construction, industry, hotel and catering services, transport, storage and postal services reached 145.6, 135.4, 131.3 and 131.2, which remained the same level with previous quarter. The ECI of information transmission and computer services and software industry gained 155.6, dropped from previous quarter. The ECI of real estate was 112.3, dropped 8.4 points quarter-on-quarter.

The majority of entrepreneurs’ confidence of registered enterprises promoted or remained stable. In the first quarter, the ECIs of enterprises invested by Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, private enterprises and collective enterprises respectively reached 138.8, 130.3 and 120.7, which had some increase than previous quarter. The ECIs of share-holding enterprises, state-owned enterprises, limited liability corporations reached 144.0, 135.8 and 133.9, remained the same level as comparing with last quarter. While the ECIs of foreign funded enterprises and cooperative enterprises, stood at 140.6 and 117.5, fell from the previous quarter.

The ECIs of medium and small sized enterprises went on stable. In the first quarter, the ECI of medium sized enterprises was 137.7, remained the same level with previous quarter. The ECI of small sized enterprises was 122.7, 2.6 points higher from previous quarter, that of large sized enterprises was 150.5, fell from previous quarter.

The ECIs of eastern, central and western regions promoted. The ECI of eastern regions was 135.8, remained the same level from a quarter ago; the ECIs of central and western regions stood at 140.6 and 137.4, increased 1.5 and 2.0 points from last quarter.
