Asia-Pacific Leads in Mobile TV
added: 2007-10-31

About 38 million viewers—more than three-quarters of the total worldwide audience in the middle of 2007—subscribed to mobile TV in Japan and South Korea, according to Berg Insight.

The technology behind mobile TV is pricey, so large-scale launches in Europe are still expected to take a few more years.

“We believe that regular mobile networks will remain the dominant carrier for mobile video, at least for the next couple of years,” said Sabine Ehlers, associate analyst at Berg Insight, in a statement.

Although various mobile TV technologies are competing to become the most widespread standard, Berg predicted that handsets and chips would eventually work with a number of standards and eliminate the need to educate consumers about the different types of mobile TV.
